The Hurricanes will have an anxious wait this week monitoring centre Conrad Smith to see if he is fit enough to face the Reds in their must win encounter on Friday.
Smith was forced to leave the field with 15 minutes to go in the Hurricanes match against the Chiefs with a head knock.
Hurricanes' assistant coach Jono Phillips says it would be a huge loss if he is not fit for Friday.
"Smith's in a rich vein of form and is a world class player, but we're confident he'll be fit." he told RadioSport.
Phillips says they will follow the usual procedures and Smith will be assessed as the week goes on, but they will prepare as if he is fit.
Hurricanes Captain Andrew Hore however has eased fears that he might miss the match and will be fit for Friday despite leaving the field late in the game.
