Former All Black and Wales star Shane Howarth will have to re-apply for his position as Assistant coach of the Blues for the Super 15.

The New Zealand Rugby Union and the Blues have decided to advertise the position from Sunday the 11th of July.

The decision to advertise the role was taken by the NZRU on the recommendation of the coaching Review Panel that has conducted its 2010 season review of Blues Head Coach Pat Lam and Assistant Coach Shane Howarth.

The Review Panel consisted of NZRU Board Member Graham Mourie, NZRU High Performance Coach Development Manager Mike Chu, Blues Chairman Greg Muir, Blues CEO Andy Dalton, and Blues directors Grant Fox and Gary Whetton.

The decision comes after the Blues had another disappointing season given the abundance of talent at their disposal.

In 2010 the Blues managed just seven wins from thirteen matches and finished in 7th place.

In 2009 under Howarth and Head coach Lam the Blues finished in 9th place.
